News & Notes for Voss MS Families

Here are a few ways to stay connected this year:

Campus Newsletter: Emailed Weekly

October 15 Family Night from 5-6 PM

Come SOAR Among Stars With Us!
Join us for a meaningful evening of connection, creativity, and community as we come together to celebrate the values that help our Voss community SOAR—Service, Ownership, Achievement, and Resilience. Our hallways will transform into colorful “constellations,” each representing one of our core values. We invite students, families, friends, and community members to experience the creativity and spirit of our campus and vote for their favorite hallway decorations. Come be part of this special celebration of who we are together!

Dropping Off Student Lunches?

Please follow this process when dropping off lunch for you child. This is for lunch boxes and/or outside food. This process will assist in less classroom disruption to protect the instruction time. Food may only be dropped off for your child. Safety concerns prohibit parents providing food for other students. Large orders of outside food that are sent in, will be returned if more than one order is present - this includes pizzas, Chick-Fil-A, McDonald's etc.

  • Please make sure your student knows it is going to be dropped off.
  • When entering the office, there is a cubby to drop them.
  • Each cubby is labeled by lunch (Lunch 1, Lunch 2, Lunch 3)
  • Please write your child's name, grade level, & lunch period on the post it note that is provided.
  • The cart will be delivered to the cafeteria for students to pick them up.

Would You Like to Volunteer?

We are inviting our wonderful Voss Middle School parents to volunteer their time and support our teachers by assisting in the copy room! Your help will make a meaningful difference by allowing our teachers to focus on what they do best, providing an amazing learning experience for our students.

Volunteers can sign up for 2-hour shifts throughout the school day, helping with copying and preparing materials for our classrooms. Whether you can volunteer once or regularly, we would love to have you join us! Thank you for being such an important part of our Voss Middle School family. Together, we help our Eagles soar!

If you are interested, please reach out to Ms. Cadenhead at Katherine.Cadenhead@boerneisd.net. All those interested must complete and submit the Boerne ISD Online Volunteer Application.

Halloween Dance - October 23

Get ready for a frightfully good time, Eagles! You’re invited to our annual Halloween Dance on Friday, October 23, from 6- 8 pm, where the fun is as silly as your costumes are spooky! Come dressed in your best Halloween fit and dance the night away with your friends. More frightfully fun details about activities & competitions happening at the dance are creeping your way soon!

Tickets are now on sale online & in person! Tickets are $15 for Entry + Canes meal or $5 for an Entry Ticket. All meal tickets must be purchased by Friday, October 16th.

Cash purchases may be done before or after school: Ms. Goodman will be set up in the main hallway, outside of her classroom (C203), each day.

Parent Chaperones - Halloween Dance

Student Council has been working hard to organize and create fun new activities for this year's dance! We would love to have some parents there to help chaperone and work in specific areas of the dance alongside our StuCo students.

Please note: our dance falls on the same night as the Boerne High HOCO football game!

Attention 6th Graders!

You are doing an amazing job adjusting to middle school and we would like to celebrate you!

Picture retakes will take place during 1st period in the gym on Tuesday, October 6th. An announcement will be made for any student needing to take a picture to report to the gym at this time. Students that missed the first picture day, will have their picture taken on this day.

Home Support Needed

NeeDoh's and Squishy Objects

We have seen an increase in students bringing noneducational squishy toys and objects to class. In an effort to minimize distractions from the amazing learning going on in the classrooms we are asking that students not bring Needoh or comparable squishy toys with them to campus.

Keeping Our Classrooms Focused
We kindly ask that students leave squishy toys and similar fidget items at home. While we understand that these items can be fun and comforting for students, they can also be a distraction from the amazing learning taking place in our classrooms. Our goal is to minimize distractions and help every student stay focused, engaged, and ready to learn. We appreciate your partnership and support in helping us provide the best learning environment possible for all students!

Personal Communication Devices - Turn Off

Students are doing a good job keeping personal devices such as cell phones put away! We just need your help please with a couple of small reminders:
  1. Apple Watches are a personal communication device. This week we had numerous students entering the building with these still on and in sight.
  2. For both phones and watches please make sure devices are completely turned off, not just silenced. We’ve had a few classroom interruptions from phones ringing and alarms going off.
Thank you for helping us keep classrooms focused and learning on track!

Student Water Bottle Request

As we work to keep classrooms focused and learning uninterrupted, please consider having your student carry a closed water bottle that seals rather than a bottle with a straw. We’ve had an increase in classroom spills recently, which interrupts instruction and create distractions.  A closed bottle can also help students avoid accidental spills on their belongings, schoolwork, and classroom materials.

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

Currently, the National Junior Honor Society is only open to the 8th grade members that were inducted last school year in May. There will be three meetings each semester this year. Our first meeting was on Monday, September 14th - information about service hours, grade checks and officer elections were discussed.
